An interior designer is someone who works with regards to the client’s needs to create a visually pleasing space. Clients range from homeowners to large corporations. The spaces that the interior designer designs have a broad range, from simple home indoor and outdoor decors to the lavish hotel interiors. All the interior designers should have a sense of utilization of space along with attractive decor. The space created should also meet safety requirements.

An interior designer’s job is to have creative intelligence and the ability to think outside the box. In today’s times, most of the people consult interior designers to decorate their homes and offices. They have to create an aesthetically pleasing decor keeping in mind the client’s needs, money allotted, and space available.

What are the roles and responsibilities for Interior Designer?

  • Interior designers make indoor areas functional, safe, and attractive by efficient use of spaces and decorative items.
  • Advise client on interior design factors such as space planning, layout and use of furnishings or equipment, and colour coordination. 
  • Interior designers plan colour schemes, furniture, furnishings, decorations and arrangements as per client goals.
  • Inspect construction work on-site to ensure its adherence to the design plans. 
  • Render design ideas in the form of paste-ups or drawings. 
  • Use computer-aided drafting (CAD) and related software to produce construction documents. 
  • Confer with client to determine factors affecting interior planning environments, such as budget, architectural preferences, and purpose and function. 
  • Interior Designers estimate material requirements and costs, and present design to client for approval. 
  • They review and detail shop drawings for construction plans. 
  • Formulate an environmental plan to be practical, aesthetic, and conducive to intended purposes, such as raising productivity or selling merchandise. 
  • Design spaces to be environment friendly, using sustainable, recycled materials when feasible. 
  • Research and explore the use of new materials, technologies, and products to incorporate into designs. 
  • Coordinate with other professionals, such as contractors, architects, engineers, and plumbers, to ensure job success.
  • They subcontract fabrication, installation, and arrangement of carpeting.
  • It includes fixtures, accessories, draperies, paint and wall coverings, artwork, furniture, and related items. 

How to Become an Interior Designer in India?

Student can do 12 (Any stream). Then complete B.Des in Interior Design. Further you can Proceed with M.Des in Interior Design.

Student can do 12 (Maths). Then complete B.Sc Interior Designing. Further you can Proceed with M.Sc Interior Design.

Student can do 12 (Maths). Then complete B.Arch. Further you can Proceed with M.Des Interior Design.
